Resources for Policy Makers

The National Communication Association advances communication as the discipline that studies all forms, modes, media and consequences of communication through humanistic, social scientific, and aesthetic inquiry.

Dedicated to fostering and promoting free and ethical communication, the NCA promotes the widespread appreciation of the importance of communication in public and private life, the application of competent communication to improve the quality of human life and relationships, and the use of knowledge about communication to solve human problems.

Public Policy

NCA engages in two types of work related to public policy:

  • Informs Discussion on Public Issues
Communication scholarship informs discussion about public issues, and sometimes the association takes corresponding positions on these issues.  The association also provides funds to communication scholars to translate existing communication research findings into recommendations that can inform and impact public policy.

Learn about experts on critical communication topics, upcoming public programs on current issues, and findings from forthcoming articles in communication journals on subjects including health communication, interpersonal and international relationships, and issues in higher education.

NCA is a member of a number of organizations that provide collaborative opportunities for enhancing and increasing its public engagement.
